OPEN, POUR, MIX, BAKE…SERVE

Easy breezy…corn pudding casserole (aka moist cornbread)!!!

This is one of those easy recipes you can whip up at a moments notice.  It’s a nice compliment to Bar-B-Que, Fajitas, Chili or a Fish Fry. It would be a great side dish for just about any picnic or pot luck you are invited to attend.

OPEN, POUR, MIX, BAKE AND SERVE

Ingredients

1 box of Jiffy cornbread mix
1 can of whole kernel corn
1 can of creamed corn
1 cup of sour cream
1/2 stick of butter, melted

Mix all ingredients and pour into a greased 9×11 backing pan.

Bake @ 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until golden brown.

Cassarole is done when a toothpick is inserted into the center and it comes out clean.

X is for…Xenia (a-z challenge)

Thanks to the A-Z challenge I learned something new!

Xenia is the Greek concept of hospitality, or generosity and courtesy shown to those who are far from home.  It is often translated as guest-friendship because the rituals of hospitality created and expressed a reciprocal relationship between host and guest.

There are three basic rules of Xenia.

  • The respect of host to guest.  The host must be hospitable to the guest offering them food, drink and a bath if required.
  • The respect of guest to host.  The guest must be courteous and not be a burden.
  • The parting gift from host to guest.  This is to show that the host was honored to have received the guest.
  •  (Wiki Info)

Spiritual assessment tests have shown that I have the gift of hospitality.  However long before ever taking one of these tests I knew that entertaining family and friends was my sweet spot.  I find great joy in welcoming them into our home and then making sure they are well taken care of.  The greatest compliment I have ever received is when a friend told me “I love your home, it is so comfortable.”

I believe hospitality is a gift I was born with but it was also nurtured by my family.  My Grandmother had the gift of hospitality.  I remember that she always had a cake and a pot of coffee ready everyday at 3pm for whomever showed up at her door, and show up they did.  She had 9 children and dozens of grandchildren and on any given afternoon her kitchen was filled with people and laughter.

My parents know how to add that special little touch to any gathering, good conversation or a special dessert or two. They never show up empty-handed or let you leave without a gift from the garden or the freezer.  They are some of the most hospitable people you could ever meet.

My Sister is a great party planner and hostess with the mostess.  She has an annual Halloween party that people start planning to attend in July!  That is a testament to her gift of hospitality and thoughtfulness.

I know that I could show up unannounced at any one of my Cousins or Aunts homes and they would welcome me with open arms.  And if it so happened to be around 3pm I am almost positive I would be offered a fresh hot cup of coffee and slice of something sweet!

Our family has been practicing Xenia for generations and we just thought we were being hospitable.

V… for Vendetta

I think this is quite possibly the most “V” words ever quoted in one speech…from the movie V for Vendetta,

written by Andy Wachowski & Larry Wachowski, from characters created by Alan Moore & David Lloyd

V: Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villian by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.  The only verdict is vengence; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.  Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.

U is for…Un, Une and Unique

Today the A-Z challenge is dedicated to the letter “U”.  This weeks WordPress weekly photo challenge topic is “One”.  I decided to roll them together into a little package.

The words Un and Une are the masculine and feminine words for the french word One.

This morning I prepared breakfast for Une, a little french bistro breakfast; blackberry croissant, fresh fruit drizzled with vanilla agave syrup and une tasse de cafe!

T is for Trending…(a-z challenge)!

I have linked up with Tossing it Out who is hosting the Blogging from A-Z April Blogging Challenge.  It’s a post a day for the month of April excluding Sundays.  You can learn more about it by clicking on the “A-Z Button” in the right side bar.

I am a couple of days late with my post for the letter “T” and “U” is on the calendar for today. So here is to the letter “T”!

I am somewhat fascinated with what’s (T)rending on my yahoo and twitter homepages. Although I am rarely if ever interested enough to click on one of the topics and see where it takes me.  However I am curious as to why people are  searching for information on these particular people or topics.   I know the list is generated by the increase in hits on a particular topic.  I know that people’s internet searches are influenced by the latest news reports or talk shows.

The following list is from April 24th, 2011, Easter Sunday.

TRENDING NOW

  1. Jim Belushi
  2. Lindsay Lohan
  3. Prince William
  4. Dev Patel
  5. Tablets
  1. Frank McCourt
  2. James Franco

  4. Retirement planning
  5. Easter

I do see how people would be interested in Prince William, Retirement Planning and Easter but Metallica, Really!  All of this talk about trending gave me pause to think what exactly is trending in my life right now.

  1. Easter
  2. Gasoline Prices
  3. Gardening
  4. The Economy
  5. Texas is in a drought
  6. Buying a new car
