Word a Week Challenge: Gardens

This blog was inspired by A Word a Week Photography Challenge.

Here is a tour of the gardens that have crossed my path…As I have wandered through each one my worries and burdens have been carried away as if on the wings of a butterfly.  Spending time in a garden, whether it is filled with flowers or vegetables, is one of the most peaceful places on this earth.

This is where it all started…with my parents love for a beautiful garden and my Dad’s very green thumb.

July 4th 2007 006

A garden from a previous home…very tropical!

Our current front garden filled with traditional southern heritage plants; plumbago, day lilies, rosemary, roses, azalea and camelias.

The Garden

Last years vegetable garden that produced so much, we ate all we could and shared the rest.

Here is a community garden, where members of the neighborhood adopt a parcel of land.  They can grow whatever they desire.  It is a mix of flowers and vegetables.

Frobergs 008

This is a much bigger garden that many visit during strawberry season.  Here at Froberg’s you pay for what you pick…the kiddos love it!

I love spending time in the garden, especially when it is full of color and good things to eat!

Travel Theme: Walls…Day Tripping on Street Art

On a day trip to the Houston Museum of Fine Art I took a detour…and stumbled upon these walls..the area where I snapped these photographs is referred to as Midtown.

In Houston and the surrounding areas we are plagued by vandals who use graffiti and tagging to “mark their territory”…This is different…This is Street Art!  Feel free to weigh in on my wall art!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Illumination

“The intellect of the wise is like glass; it admits the light of heaven and reflects it.”  Augustus Hare

This photo was taken at the Houston Museum of Fine Art with my iphone…It was part of an exhibit by Carlos Cruz-Diez.  Standing in the exhibit was like standing in a rainbow.  It was very illuminating!

January Photo a Day 2013: Water

Day 11. Water: Perhaps it’s the beach, a river, water in a glass, the bath {keep it PG!} or even the rain.

Friday found us heading out on a road trip…We woke to a beautiful clear cool morning.  We packed the truck, loaded the dogs and headed out…Our day was filled with visions of water in many forms…we saw clouds, mist, rain, swollen rivers, fog and downpours!

Leaving Houston, Texas we crossed over the ship channel bridge and the San Jacinto River.

photo (31)

About half way through the State of Louisiana we crossed the Atchafalaya River Basin. We were starting to catch up with the weather front that had dumped more than 9″ of rain in the area.

photo (32)

Once arriving in Baton Rouge, Louisiana we headed East on I-12…We caught the front.

photo (33)

On any given day this would be a creek bed with a trickle of water…One creek overflowed and met up with the next creek for miles and miles.  The water was swift and menacing.

photo (34)

We had a break in the rain on Saturday but on Sunday it was back with a vengeance as we headed back West…

photo (30)

Water, water every where!

What do the prompts mean?

There are no rules when playing along with photo a day, you can be creative as you like! Interpret the prompt as you please. For those that need a little help, some more suggested details about each prompt are below.

12. Surprise: I love when I stumble across coins when I’m walking. It’s a lovely surprise. That would be a lucky photo for me. Can you think of a way to capture surprise?
13. Circle: Look as you go about today for things shaped in circles. Is it the tyres on a bus? A big sign? Or something else?
14. Something yellow: Find something yellow in your travels today and take a photo.

October Photo a Day Challenge: Day 10

October Photo a Day Challenge is Emotion…

It isn’t unusual for me to experience a wide range of emotions each day.  On any given day my emotions can swing from relaxed to anxious, confident to concerned and overwhelmed to calm all before I finish my morning cup of coffee…Emotions are any strong agitation of the feelings caused by experiencing joy, love, sorrow, fear, hate or the like.

I wonder what emotion I was experiencing when this photo was taken…

Here are the remaining October Photo a Day Challenge prompts:
