Cloudy…

When you first hear the word “cloudy” you may immediately think of a dreary rainy overcast day…but sometimes a cloudy day can be breathtaking….and this was one of those times!

Blogging Hiatus…

Maybe you have noticed and then again, maybe you haven’t.  I have been on a blogging hiatus.    This hiatus was an unscheduled break and an interruption in my efforts as a blogger and a writer.

My first experience with this sort of hiatus dropped in on me last year after I had completed the 30 day April A-Z Challenge.  Again this year after posting everyday of the month for theApril challenge my creative ideas were depleted.  I even found my brain couldn’t focus on the simplest Wordless Wednesday post.  I think I owe Frizztext a couple of posts for the A-Z Archive Photo Challenge.

Then there was the added busyness of my 9-5 job during the month of May; Mother’s Day celebration, Baby Dedication weekend, Outdoor Church Wide Baptisms, Graduation Recognition and Corporate Communion for 3000 people.  Whew…

Everything that was on my plate overwhelmed me and I just had to say NO to something.

“Sometimes we have to say No to good things so that we can say YES to even better things.”

My blogging hiatus has given me the opportunity to spend time with friends and family.  There have been graduation parties at the park and birthday celebrations on the river.   There was a fishing tournament that benefits returning wounded veterans and new car shopping.

I have missed the camaraderie of my like-minded blogging friends…I have missed reading about your comings and goings…your real and imagined stories…your delcious recipes…and your junkin’ excursions…and your wonderful photos that usually take my breath away and leave me wishing I was there and thankful that you have shared your view of the world with me.

I think June will see my back banging away on the computer.  In the meantime…

Unscheduled blogging hiatus’ can be one of those even better things…see you in June!

A-Z Weekly Photo Archive Challenge: R!…Rockport, Texas

There is a quaint little town located on the Gulf Coast of Texas…The Town of Rockport was founded in 1867. George Fulton completed his mansion in 1877 (now a Historical landmark) in the community known as Fulton, next to Rockport. Other communities in Aransas County include: Holiday Beach (Lamar Peninsula); Spanish Village (Blackjack Peninsula); Estes and a portion of Arkansas Pass (Live Oak Peninsula).

The Rockport area offers a wide variety of activities for locals and visitors alike.  You can enjoy browsing the many art galleries or the historical walking tour.  There are whooping crane boat tours for the bird enthusiast.  Rockport also offers bay or deep-sea fishing for the anglers. There is leisure boating through the canal communities or you can enjoy Il dolce far niente…the sweetness of doing nothing!

Our trip to Rockport was spent with good friends who treated us to a little canal cruising, our share of good food and a bit of sight seeing.

A-Z Photo Archive Challenge: “O” is for Owl…

This week’s topic for our A-Z ARCHIVE Tuesday’s photo challenge: the letter “O”: introduce one photo of your own archive with a “O” keyword. I’m sure you’ll find a picture in your own shoe boxes to scan – tag with “A-Z Archive” and put a link on your page to my site, so we’ll get a trackback-list including your post!

We have owls…when we first purchased our property in the country we would “visit” from time to time.  The Hubs would spend the day working the land…first there was the arduous task of collecting all of the fallen tree limbs, then there was the very itchy scratchy job of trying to remove the poison ivy that was growing around the trees.  Finally there was the task of cutting the grass.

The Hubs would work most of the day on Sunday.  After I would finish up at church, I would swing by one of the local restaurants and pick up lunch and head out to the property for a late afternoon picnic.

On one of my very first Sunday afternoon visits I was greeted by a menagerie of woodland creatures; there were Deer, Rabbits, Piglets and Owls. The deer, piglets and rabbits did not hang around for long…but the Owls seemed most curious.  There were two, rather impressive Owls…quite possibly a pair.  That was several years ago…we have now lived on the property for 2 years and last year we had our first pair of owelets…so incredibly cute and curious and totally unconcerned with our comings and goings.

No matter the time of year we can always hear the owls hooting back and forth.  In early spring the hooting is much louder and more frequent.  It almost sounds as though there is an owl in every tree.  We are anxiously anticipating the arrival of this years owlets.  The screeching of the baby’s should begin any day.  By early June they should be visiting our oaks and watching us as much as we are watching them.

A-Z Archive: N! Challenge…NOLA, New Orleans!

This week’s topic for our “A-Z Archive” photo challenge: the “N” archive: introduce one photo of your archive with a “N” Keyword. – I’m sure you’ll find a picture: tag with “A-Z Archive” and put a link on your page to FrizzText, so we’ll get a trackback-list including your post!

This picture was taken on a weekend trip to NOLA in August of 2011.  We were standing on Royal Street looking East towards the Business District located on Canal Street.  It is a great contrast of the 1800’s Spanish influenced architecture and modern New Orleans

Some of my favorite things about NOLA are the balconies,

the alleyways

and the courtyards…not to mention all of the great live music and delicious food!
