January Photo a Day 2013: Yourself!

Day 31. Yourself: Take a photo of yourself. Or something that represents you.

The sunrise this morning was beautiful and the air was crisp and cool…just the way January should be…As I was standing in the driveway admiring the beautiful weather, listening to the birds singing their songs and watching them chasing one another through the trees I noticed something…It was ME!  The perfect photo opportunity to finish up the January Photo a Day 2013 Challenge.

January Photo a Day 2013: Down!

Day 30. Down: Is it looking down or something that makes you feel down? Interpret it however you like.

Usually looking down from heights makes my heart race and palms sweat…this view was through the glass and the feeling was still the same.

January Photo a Day 2013: Grow!

Day 29. Grow: People do it, plants do it too… get creative and take a photo of something that grows.

This is what is growing in my yard…Clover!  This little flower and it’s heart-shaped leaves are almost as friendly as daisy’s…I prefer daisy’s but they don’t grow this time of year and the clover’s do.

27. Sun: Whether the sun is out in full force, or hiding behind the clouds today – take a photo of it. Or you could get creative and take a photo of sunlight or some other interpretation.
28. Through: Take a photo of looking through something – through the window, through the gate, through the trees… whatever you please.

Today was a great day for shooting the sun through the trees…

January Photo A Day 2013: Landscape/Together

Well, the month is almost over and I am still playing catch up with the photo a day challenge.  In my effort to finish on time I am offering a combination of Day 25 & 26…

Day 25. Landscape: Step back and take a photo of a landscape near you. Or even take a little trip just for the photo. Would be nice to explore your town for a beautiful photo.
Day 26. Together: There are many definitions for together. One is: In or into a single group, mass, or place. Take a photo of together, whichever definition you’d like to use.

Over the past week our neighborhood has had many visitors swooping in for a quick snack or a place to rest. Some keep to themselves and stay a safe distance away.  However, this morning I had my own personal Alfred Hitchcock experience…Birds stick together and when they do they become the  landscape…

photo (46)

I did capture my Hitchcock “The Birds” experience on video…I am embarrassed to say that I missed most of the experience because I forgot to push the bright red button..In my defense I was driving and they were everywhere.

27. Sun: Whether the sun is out in full force, or hiding behind the clouds today – take a photo of it. Or you could get creative and take a photo of sunlight or some other interpretation.
28. Through: Take a photo of looking through something – through the window, through the gate, through the trees… whatever you please.

January Photo a Day 2013: Stripes

Almost caught up…

Day 24. Stripes: Look for stripes in your everyday. They could be in the zebra crossing on the road, or in your outfit or somewhere else.

This is the tank on my sisters bike…she has earned her stripes and rides with the crew every chance she gets…

January Photo a Day 2013: Electric

Still playing catch up with the January Photo a Day 2013 Challenge

Day 23. Electric: This could be a simple photo of your toaster {but get creative} or something else electric.

This is the Boca Grande, Gasparilla Island Rear Range Lighthouse.  It was put in to commission in 1932 and remains in operation today.

My attraction to this guy is electric…and has been for the past 27 years

January Photo a Day 2013: Something You Saw

Still trying to catch up…

Day 20. Something you saw: Go about your day with eyes wide open and take a photo of something you saw.

Last Saturday evening while attending the 80th Birthday Party of my Husband’s Uncle I saw this view of the Uptown Houston Skyline…Nice!

22. Corner: It could be a sharp corner of a building, a corner of an artwork, a corner of your home or something else. Corners are everywhere. Shoot one.

January Photo a Day 2013: Delicious

Still catching up…

Day 19. Delicious: What’s delicious to you? Is it the chubby cheeks of your toddler, the hunk at the gym or a cake you plan on eating for afternoon tea?

This ain’t your mama’s afternoon tea…This, my friends, is the dish that my husband requests that my parents make whenever we visit.  This is Deer Sauce Picante!  It is a wonderfully rich and delicious stew served over rice.

On our visit this January my Dad passed the baton to the next generation of family cooks.  We did all of the chopping, measuring, stirring and watching the pot come to a boil.  One would think the main ingredient in this dish is the deer meat.  It is a key ingredient but it is not what makes this dish.  The KEY ingredient in this dish is the black cast iron pot in which the stew is cooked.  More on that another time…

January Photo a Day 2013: Shadow

Still playing catch up! But I have not given up…

Day 18. Shadow: Find a shadow and shoot it. It could be your own, or a shadow of something else. Shadows look great with a black and white filter over the top {just sayin!}.

It has been overcast here for what seems like forever…Shadows have been hard to come by.  While stopping in for lunch at our favorite Mongolian restaurant this past weekend I was able to capture a shadowy shot.  Image
