Rainbows…

I understand the science behind the optical phenomenon of reflection and refraction of light through water droplets resulting in a rainbow.  Nevertheless, rainbows are a magical experience.

Did you know…A primary rainbow arc shows red on the outer part and violet on the inner.  On a double rainbow, the second arc has its colors reversed.  I know the second rainbow is barely visible, but I think I was lucky to see it at all.

double rainbow

According to Genesis, after Noah saved the animals from the Great Flood, a rainbow appeared. As the flood had killed all other living beings, the rainbow came to symbolize God’s promise that he would never send another flood to destroy all of the earth and that never again would all living things be killed in the waters of a flood.

As much as I believe in the existence of rainbows, I also believe the Biblical story of the great flood to be true and accurate.

Yard Art…

We recently purchased the two acres of property next to our home.  Our plans for this additional land is to create a beautiful green space with walking paths and sitting areas.  The property was so heavily overgrown that it was nearly impossible to see more than a few feet in either direction of the path that my husband cut through the woods.

This will be a life long project but the first step in the process was to clear the under brush and the trash trees.  Once the clearing was completed, it allowed me the opportunity to wander through the property and take in the beauty of nature.  I like to think of my discoveries as Yard Art.

…This is the trunk on an almost petrified tree…This will become a focal point in a sitting area that I have planned for the center of the property.

Walking in The Woods…

Today, I took a walk in the woods next to our house.

photo 3 (8)After a few minutes I could no longer see the road or our house.  I was surrounded by overgrown underbrush, trees and brier patches…

photo 1 (8)

I was totally focused on watching where I was walking so I wouldn’t step in a rabbit hole, trip on a fallen tree or walk into a Pyracantha branch.

photo 4 (5)

The silence was broken by a soft scurry through the fallen leaves...

photo 2 (9)

the next thing I heard was a guttural sound and the loud flapping of wings…predator or prey.

photo 5 (2)

I was quickly reminded that walking in the woods is like visiting someone else’s home.

Snow Angels…

Snow Angels…I think of them often in the winter…maybe it’s because I have grown up in the south and it rarely snows.  I can tell you that I thought making a snow angel was a fairly simple thing…wait for the now…lay down in the snow…move your arms and legs around…Voila…Snow Angel!  Recently, I had the opportunity to make my very first snow angel…I was as excited as a kid…I fell back into the snow laughing, I made the required snow angel movements…then the moment came…I needed to get up without disturbing my perfect snow angel…reality set in…
