Celebrating Life…A Girl and her Bulldog!

Today my Dad is celebrating his 71st Birthday. His nickname is Bulldog…not exactly sure how that came about, but it suits him perfectly. 

When I was growing up my Dad got great enjoyment from scaring the neighborhood boys when they came by the house.  He would open the door really fast…and in a loud deep gruff voice, just shy of shouting, say… “WHAT DO YOU WANT?!”…  Back then I didn’t think it was very funny, actually it embarrassed me.  But now I get it… 

I am the oldest of four girls and this was his way of letting the boys know that he was looking out for his girls.  I love that about my Dad. 

My Dad knows what makes life worth living…Family!

Well today was the Big day!  It came and went without too much attention, a lot like this post.  I received a card in the mail, numerous Facebook well wishes and a few text messages and a spattering of phone calls.  My mother recounted the ordeal of my birth. My Dad told me the same story he tells me every year.  My husband showered me with wonderful gifts and the sweetest card, the kind that tugs at your heart-strings.  This year I managed not to cry.  He also found the perfect humorous birthday card.

(d) is for decorating (a-z challenge)

I enJOY making things look pretty!  Decorating our home or the bookstore that I manage or simply arranging the buffet line in the church cafe gives me a great sense of accomplishment and JOY!  It is my happy place!!!

This past weekend my husband and I hosted a birthday party for his mother.  She celebrated her 75th (B)irthday! 

  I had the pleasure of spending time in the kitchen with my Mom prepping and cooking the appetizers and desserts for the party.

  While my mom was whipping up the italian creme birthday cake, carrot cake cupcakes, oatmeal cranberry cookies and chocolate dipped strawberries. I was working on the crunchy veggie dip, texas caviar and antipasta salad.  

 When all of the food was ready I was able to focus on the one thing I have a knack for… decorating.

Birthdays mark the milestones in our life; the first birthday, the “sweet” sweet-sixteen birthday, the long-awaited 21st birthday, the dreaded 30th birthday, the mid-life crisis 40th birthday, the I can’t believe I’m 50 birthday, the I no longer care what you think 60th birthday and this weekends reason for celebrating was the OMG I’m 75 birthday!!!
