Hello Mornings!

I am neither a self-professed early riser or a night owl.  I enjoy the peacefulness that either time of the day offers.  How can I choose between the beauty of a golden sunrise or a majestic purple sunset?  One offers me an opportunity to rejoice with the coming of the new day.  While the other gives me time to reflect and be thankful for all that the day was.

There is something to be said about starting the day off in the presence of the Lord…Jesus started his day off by meeting with the Lord and therefore set an example for how our day should begin.

I am embarking on a journey this summer.  A journey that will begin at dawn each day.  Each morning will begin with prayer, include a devotional reading and finish up with a time of quiet and stillness.

I am feeling most challenged by the commitment to the time of quiet and stillness…typically when my feet hit the floor my mind is racing…making my own plan for the day, week, month…rarely checking in with the Lord to see what His plan is for my day.

I have found that it’s easier for me to stay focused when I have a plan in place.  Otherwise, I find myself distracted and rambling. I have been known to chase a squirrel or two…  I have found the simple ACTS prayer model works for me…This also follows the pattern of the Lords prayer…

  • Adoration: proclaiming who God is and the attributes of HIS character
  • Confession: personal cleansing, repentance, putting on Christs nature
  • Thanksgiving: praise offering, meditation
  • Supplication: asking, intercession and petitioning according to God’s will

I have created a place that I hope will become my thin place, where heaven meets earth (check out the explanation at 6:00 minutes) …my meeting place with the Lord…If you would like to join the summer session of Hello Mornings click here to find a group.

I am looking forward to developing a great new habit of rising early and meeting with the Lord.  This could be the best summer of my life! Let the journey begin…

The Gift of Grace…

When I first believed and accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior I received a gift…The gift of Grace…God’s riches at Christ’s expense. I asked for forgiveness and acceptance. I turned away from my old ways and chose a new path. 

Although I did not feel worthy of receiving such an incredible gift…the gift of grace.  It was given to me, unconditionally.  No strings attached…no further requirement on my part.  It was and is a free gift.

As I have grown in my faith I now understand a little bit about grace.  Along the way I have learned to extend the gift of grace to those around me.  It is often those who least deserve the gift who need it the most.(I was one of those people)  Therefore, it is given without the expectation of getting anything in return. 

Sometimes there are individuals in our life that require extra grace, sometimes I can be one of those people.  Nonetheless, grace is required, grace is given.  I am thankful everyday for the grace that is afforded me by those in my life, no strings attached.

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God– not by works, so that no one can boast.”

What Is Grace?

What is grace? Grace is love that seeks you out when you have nothing to give in return. Grace is love coming at you that has nothing to do with you. Grace is being loved when you are unlovable. The cliché definition of grace is “unconditional love.” It is a true cliché, for it is a good description of the thing…Let’s go a little further, though.

Grace is a love that has nothing to do with you, the beloved. It has everything and only to do with the lover. Grace is irrational in the sense that it has nothing to do with weights and measures. It has nothing to do with my intrinsic qualities or so-called “gifts” (whatever they may be). It reflects a decision on the part of the giver (the one who loves) in relation to the receiver (the one who is loved) that negates any qualifications the receiver may personally hold…Grace is one-way love.

Love your neighbor…

Before the month of Love comes to an end…I would like to share a little bit of my heart with you…

I am mostly non confrontational…and a peace keeper…

I am soft hearted and sometimes get my feelings hurt over a passing comment.   

It doesn’t take much to tug on my heart-strings and all of the evil, hatred and fighting in the world weighs heavy on my spirit. 

I typically do not watch the news because it fills me with sadness…

I wonder how different the World would be if the news media focused more on the positive things that people do instead of all of the murder and mayhem.  Just today the first 10 minutes of the evening news was dedicated to the following stories;

  • Man shoots wife, two daughters, then himself
  • Fight over singing ends in fatal shooting
  • Off-duty HPD officers shoot teen in SE Houston
  • Man shot to death in his apartment
  • Pawn shops targeted in smash and grab thefts
  • One killed, 4 wounded in school shooting in Ohio

The list continues with more murders and then as if to lighten the mood the News Anchor switches over to the recap of the Oscars…It’s not enough to highlight the winners,great effort is made to point out who failed to meet the expectations of the fashion gurus…Then they move on to the political in fighting and wrap up with the daunting news of the ever-increasing gasoline prices. 

Not a single minute of a single “feel good” story.  I know that every day good people all over the world are doing good things for people in need.  I think there should be more time devoted to covering the “feel good” stuff….

The people in this video gave up their Saturday to go out and help a complete stranger.  Not only did they donate their time, they paid a minimal fee to cover the cost of a T-Shirt, transportation and snacks.   They didn’t do it for the recognition…they didn’t do it for money… they didn’t do it for any other reason than the fact that there was a need.   

New Hope Church, where I worship and work, organizes community outreach projects throughout the year.  The outreach projects fill up in a couple of weeks time and usually have a waiting list.  More times than not the teams come back physically exhausted but mentally exhilarated.  They come back with dirty clothes but with a renewed spirit.  They leave out thinking they are going to change someones life but come back changed themselves.   They have experienced what it is to…Love your Neighbor

For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

N is for nolagirlatheart (a-z challenge)

Good, Bad or Indifferent this is who I am and this is my life! Most days I think I am better than bad, less than good but never indifferent about the things that matter in life.

My life is not filled with death-defying feats or exceptional talents. I am simply a regular girl with hopes and dreams of a simple life. A life filled with faith, hope and love!

Yes I get off track and my compass does not always point north.  My mind gets cluttered with all of the junk in the world and I struggle with everyday stuff.   I am often saddened and confused by life’s tragic events.  I want to help but feel helpless. 

This blog is about the People, places and things that give me hope and inspire me to be a better me.

Every life is a story and every story has a beginning, a middle and an end.  Every story contains context, conflict, decisions and resolution. 

Once I realized that my life was a story I began to wonder about things; will I make better decisions, will I worry less and trust God more?  I wonder will I be a better listener and a better friend, a better wife and a better mother.  Will I share Jesus with others, or will they see Jesus in me? 

I wonder if I will laugh more often, love more deeply and will I live life to the fullest?  I am wondering about my life story but I am not worrying about it. My life story may not be filled with exciting world travels or death-defying feats.  It may be that God has planned for my life story to be one filled with lots of normal everyday stuff.

I know God has written into my life-story that I would be a daughter, a sister, a friend, a wife, a mother, an encourager and a Christ follower. I do wonder what else He has planned for my story. But I am content because I know the beginning and I know the end and I know who wrote the story line that goes in-between and I am thrilled to be part of such an amazing story.

Jeremiah 29:11 “for I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

(E) is for Easter (a-z challenge)


I love Easter!  I love that it signifies the changing of the season, from the harshness of winter to the lushness of spring.  I love the colors of Easter; pastel blue, green, pink and purple.  I love the thoughts of fuzzy bunnies and cute little chicks.  I especially enjoy all of the wonderfully delicious chocolate candy that lines the center aisle of the grocery store.  I love to see families all dressed up in their Easter Sunday best! 

Traditionally I have purchased a new outfit for just this occasion.  I have many memories of dyeing hard-boiled eggs, filling baskets with fake grass, chocolate bunnies, sweet marshemellowy peeps and trinkets.  I have eaten my share of baked ham, potato salad and stuffed eggs for Easter Sunday dinner.  And I have hidden and hunted dozens upon dozens of easter eggs. 

I enjoy Easter but I celebrate Resurrection Sunday!

The reason Christians celebrate the Easter season is to commemorate Jesus’ death on the cross. Through His death, burial and resurrection, He paid the penalty for our sins, therefore purchasing for all who believe in Him eternal life in Christ Jesus. 

Why I choose to celebrate?  I believe!!!

On Easter Sunday, Christians celebrate the resurrection of the Lord, Jesus Christ.
