25 days of Christmas…Home Tour (day 11) Gift Wrapping…

A Christmas Home Tour wouldn’t be complete without packages under the Christmas Tree…

In keeping with the season of giving…I thought it would be nice to take a look at the many options we have when it comes to wrapping up the gifts we have so carefully and thoughtfully purchased for our loved ones.

Of course, there is the option of having your gift wrapped by gift wrapping expert in the department store where you purchased the gift.  There is the option of dropping your gift in a gift bag…adding a little tissue paper  and your good to go.  You can throw all caution to the wind and go with a roll or two of wrapping paper that catches your eye, cats in Christmas hats or sledding snowmen.

My gift wrapping choices have run from one extreme to the next.  I lived through and endured years of the Christmas gift bag. I have embraced the use of plain brown paper and packing string. However, there is always the official Santa paper that is reserved the gifts that are delivered by Santa Clause…

There have been years when the presents under the tree were wrapped in remnants of Christmas paper from previous years and adorned with the a colorful assortment of bows.

Most recently, I have taken great care in choosing a color theme for the annual wrapping of the gifts  My husband has been entrusted with selecting the wrapping paper and I have to say that he has a great eye for task…

This year our packages will be wrapped in color coordinated paper selected by the Man of the house. They will be tied up with ribbon and dotted with bows and lovely name tags.  Some will be hidden in the wonderful burlap Santa sacks I found at Target…

Here’s wishing you a Santa sack filled with all of your Christmas wishes.

January Photo a Day 2013: Paper

Day 9. Paper: Take a photo of something made from paper. Perhaps it’s someone reading the newspaper, or it could be wrapping paper. Think outside the square.

This is one of my favorite things made of paper…it is in the window of a dress shop on the Strand in Galveston, Texas…look closely it is a beautiful dress made from the pages of magazines.  Stunning!

I love things made of paper...this is my desk drawer.  It is filled with lots of things made of paper.  In the center is my hot pink moleskine journal, thank you notes, cards that are blank on the inside, kleenex, cocktail napkins, bills, invoices, birthday cards, birth announcements, funeral programs, business cards and stamps.  Paper, paper, paper…please don’t take my paper away.

What do the prompts mean?

There are no rules when playing along with photo a day, you can be creative as you like! Interpret the prompt as you please. For those that need a little help, some more suggested details about each prompt are below.

10. One o’clock: Take a photo of whatever you’re doing in the hour between one and two. It could be in the middle of the night {you party animal, you!} or during the day.
11. Water: Perhaps it’s the beach, a river, water in a glass, the bath {keep it PG!} or even the rain.
12. Surprise: I love when I stumble across coins when I’m walking. It’s a lovely surprise. That would be a lucky photo for me. Can you think of a way to capture surprise?
13. Circle: Look as you go about today for things shaped in circles. Is it the tyres on a bus? A big sign? Or something else?
14. Something yellow: Find something yellow in your travels today and take a photo.

A Man on a Secret Mission…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI had no idea that for years my husband has been a man on a secret mission. That is I didn’t know until he let the cat out of the bag.  As my husband and I were talking about Christmas gifts and shopping lists it was revealed that for years he has been a man on a mission,a secret mission to make sure one of the first gifts under the tree was for me.

At some point in our many Christmas’ together I off-handedly mentioned that in all the gifts that were under the tree my name wasn’t on a single present.  I do not remember the exact conversation but I am sure I was joking…However, the Hubs heard it and interpreted it to mean something that he took as a  personal challenge.  So, for years he has made sure to be the first one to place gifts under the tree.

I want you to know that no sooner had this little bit of information been revealed I became a woman on a mission…I wanted to join in the fun!

In my defense..I am not a last-minute shopper, or a gift wrap slacker…It’s just that I like to have the majority of my gifts purchased before settling in to do my wrapping.  Therefore, I rarely have my gifts wrapped and under the tree first.  That is until…this year…This year I became a woman on a mission…a mission to place the first gift under the tree!  Even if there is only ONE gift under the tree…I bought it, wrapped it and ran to put it under the tree as the Hubs came through the door…I did it, I put the first gift under the tree.  Guess who its for…no not me…its for the Hubs!

It looks like a new tradition has been born…Not only is there a man on a mission but now there is a woman on a mission. So let the fun and  games begin!
