the first blank page…

Today, is the first blank page of a 365 page book... What will this book say about your life a year from now?

2015...is here and with it comes opportunities for each of us to make a difference in our little piece of the world.  Some opportunities will present themselves in what appears to be small inconsequential moments; a warm smile offered to a passing stranger, holding the door open for a woman wrangling an active group of little’s, or paying for a cup of coffee for a total stranger.  Some opportunities will present themselves in ways that have the ability to impact someones world and change the quality of their life; giving warm clothes and blankets to a homeless shelter, helping raise money to build water wells in under developed countries, adopting a less fortunate family for Christmas.  I believe that when we give with a joyful heart our hearts are filled with joy and our life is better for it.

The bible tells us that God’s mercies are new every morning, Lamentations 3:22-23.  There is no need to wait until the beginning of a new year to make changes in our life or the lives of those around us. However, we embrace the opportunity to do just this every January 1st.   We make lists of resolutions; being more organized, eating healthier, getting more exercise, read our bible everyday, drink less, quit smoking, learn a foreign language, wake up earlier, get more sleep, visit family, and on and on and on!

Sure, today is the 1st day of the new year and there is no time like now to make a change for the better.  So DO IT!  Choose one thing to change today…Turn off the TV and read a book. Get up off the couch and go for a walk. Throw out all of the Christmas sweets and replace it with healthy snacks; fresh fruits, veggies and nuts.  Start today…it’s the first day of the rest of your life. Then tomorrow do the same thing…choose one thing to change and just DO IT!

Every day of our life is the 1st day of the rest of our life. We don’t have to wait…we can make the change now. If you didn’t start yesterday then today is the day.  No need to make a resolution…just make a change and live the life you’ve imagined. What will you write on the blank page today?

Weekly Photo Challenge: Fall

This weeks WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is Fall

The first signs that Fall has arrived in Southeast Texas are not the cooler temperatures or the leaves falling from the trees.  Our first sign that Fall has arrived are the enormous bins of pumpkins that appear overnight at the local grocer or produce stand.

Muskee de Provence

These particular pumpkins are referred to as Cinderella Pumpkins.  They come in a variety of colors; the orange and green shown here, light blue and green as well as striped.  Pumpkins with this shape are also known as heirloom pumpkins and are wonderful addition to a fall harvest display(shameless foreshadowing).

“I would rather sit on a pumpkin and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion” Henry David Thoreau

my GPS has an attitude…

girl please stay on they hightlighted route

I have a GPS and I use it!  My husband bought it for me when we moved to the country.  I could not get my bearings.  Oh I could get where I needed to go but I couldn’t “see” how I was getting there.  I always felt like I was driving in circles.  So for my birthday he gifted me a cute little companion for my car.  And lo and behold I could “see” again.

Now, I rarely need it.   However, from time to time I will plug-in an address that I am very familiar with just to see if my friendly car companion knows a quicker route.  Inevitably I do not take her suggestion because I know better.  This keeps her busy “re-calculating” the route.

There are times when I think my cute little GPS gives me just a little too much attitude.  As she is re-calculating the directions to compensate for what I am sure is deemed pure ignorance on my part she cops a little attitude and demands that I “return to the highlighted route” “return to the highlighted” “re-calculating”, “re-calculating”.  Over and over and what seems louder and with a little more persistance each time.    I do get a kick out of the hoops my little GPS jumps through trying to keep up with my meanderings.

I have in the past taken an off ramp or two in life.  I am sure God was not surprised by my change in direction.  As patient as the LORD is with each of us and the choices we make in life, HE may have whispered to me on many an occasion “re-calculating”  “return to the highlighted route”.  I am very thankful that I have found my path in life and it is highlighted by God’s grace and mercy and unconditional love.

If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading.
Lao Tzu

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
