Love your neighbor…

Before the month of Love comes to an end…I would like to share a little bit of my heart with you…

I am mostly non confrontational…and a peace keeper…

I am soft hearted and sometimes get my feelings hurt over a passing comment.

It doesn’t take much to tug on my heart-strings and all of the evil, hatred and fighting in the world weighs heavy on my spirit.

I typically do not watch the news because it fills me with sadness…

I wonder how different the World would be if the news media focused more on the positive things that people do instead of all of the murder and mayhem.  Just today the first 10 minutes of the evening news was dedicated to the following stories;

  • Man shoots wife, two daughters, then himself
  • Fight over singing ends in fatal shooting
  • Off-duty HPD officers shoot teen in SE Houston
  • Man shot to death in his apartment
  • Pawn shops targeted in smash and grab thefts
  • One killed, 4 wounded in school shooting in Ohio

The list continues with more murders and then as if to lighten the mood the News Anchor switches over to the recap of the Oscars…It’s not enough to highlight the winners, great effort is made to point out who failed to meet the expectations of the fashion gurus…Then they move on to the political in fighting and wrap up with the daunting news of the ever-increasing gasoline prices.

Not a single minute of a single “feel good” story.  I know that every day good people all over the world are doing good things for people in need.  I think there should be more time devoted to covering the “feel good” stuff….

what the world needs now is love sweet love,
it’s the only thing that there’s just to little of,
What the world needs now is love sweet love,
no, not just for some but for everyone…

Try this on for size…Love your neighbor as yourself…

The people in this video gave up their Saturday to go out and help a complete stranger.  Not only did they donate their time, they paid a minimal fee to cover the cost of a T-Shirt, transportation and snacks.   They didn’t do it for the recognition…they didn’t do it for money… they didn’t do it for any other reason than the fact that there was a need.

New Hope Church, where I worship and work, organizes community outreach projects throughout the year.  The outreach projects fill up in a couple of weeks time and usually have a waiting list.  More times than not the teams come back physically exhausted but mentally exhilarated.  They come back with dirty clothes but with a renewed spirit.  They leave out thinking they are going to change someones life but come back changed themselves.   They have experienced what it is to…Love your Neighbor

Romans 13:9
For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Each Child gets a Box….

My friend Charlene and her husband are on a mission trip in India. They visited a children’s home. This was her post on Facebook today…it started me thinking.

Each child gets a box to hold all that they own.  If you were reduced to one box, what would you put in it?”

Life in a Box…
Can you begin to imagine what it would feel like if someone handed you a box…or even a small suitcase and said “Fill it up.” “Choose carefully.” “It’s all you can take with you.”…

My first attempt to mentally fill a box was inspired by what I know, what I have experienced.  I have lived on the Gulf Coast of the United States my entire life.  Hurricane season comes every year without fail, June 1st through November 30th.  I have packed up my “important” things, loaded them into my car and headed for higher ground to wait out the storm.  This past year our area was faced with the threat of wildfires.  Again, “important” items were packed, a just in case plan was made and we waited.

My list of items took on the look and feel of an emergency preparedness list.  My list included clothes, shelf stable food, meds and personal hygiene products as well as water and of course personal protection.  Oh wait is there room for my camera and my laptop…maybe I should pack a flashlight and a first aid kit…and the list continued…

Then I attempted to look at my box from a different point of view…I don’t have these things to begin with.  I am a child.  I have been separated from my family or even worse.  All I have are a few clothing items and maybe a family photo.  If I am lucky I might have access to a little bit of food.  Instead of my box over flowing with a carefully well thought out survivalist list of supplies.  My one box is mostly empty and it’s everything I own.

If you were reduced to one box, what would you put in it?”

Babe, I love you more today than yesterday but not as much as tomorrow!

I met my husband in 1986.  His best friend introduced us.  Our first date was to see the new movie Top Gun with Tom Cruise.  We were married on February 14, 1989, Valentines Day!

To my husband of 23 years…

I love you with all my heart.

You are my Best Friend…

my soul mate…

my hero!

You are the peanut butter to my jelly…

the cream to my coffee!!!

You complete me!!

To my husband of 23 years…

You make me laugh with your silly jokes…

And cry with your thoughtful gifts.

A touch of your hand makes my heart skip a beat…

Your kisses take my breath away!

Your generous nature leaves me speechless…

Your love of family warms my heart!

You fill my life with love…

God created you for me and me for you!

I wanna grow old with you!

Happy Anniversary!!!

one of my favorite things…

Today…my absolute favorite catalog arrived in the mail.  It’s not just any edition of the catalog, it’s the Christmas catalog!  The cover is absolutely beautiful! The cover says it all!  It calls out to me from the honey colored paint on the wall in the background to the tastefully scripted subtitle scrawled across the bottom of the page, “It’s almost time to decorate for Christmas“!!!

Which catalog, you ask, is she so excited about…it is none other than PotteryBarn!!

As I am typing this little post my favorite catalog is laying next to me on the sofa.  I have yet to turn the first page.  I have waited until there will be no chance of distractions.  I want to be able to enjoy savor the experience that is waiting on each page.

I also wanted to think about why these 100+ pages excite me so much before I feverishly start turning the pages.  I love every design detail that has gone into each layout.  I look at the placement of the pillows and the wall hangings.  I love how an over sized mirror is placed in an otherwise forgotten corner.  I study the details that have gone into wrapping the Christmas gifts.   I love the variety of textures, the mixture of old and new as well as the familiar feeling that PotteryBarn feels like home.  The layouts on each page capture the essence of Christmas with grace and elegance.  The only place where caution is thrown to the wind is when it comes to decorating the tree.  There is no holding back when it comes to the tree.  The tree is the focal point!  It’s all about the Tree!!!
