As we look forward to the new year and all of its possibilities we must pause for a moment and think on all that the past year was and wasn’t…Then it is time to say Goodbye! Although 2013 wasn’t the blogging year I had hoped for it was a great year overall.
So to kick off the year with a blogging bang I have decided to host my first blogging challenge. The 2014 52 Week Photo Challenge begins today with saying Goodbye to 2013. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your part of the world through your interpretation of the challenge prompts.
A sunset is the only goodbye I look forward to…each one is beautiful in its own way and entirely unique.
Saying goodbye to 2013…
Also be sure to use the #NolaGirl52weekchallenge so everyone who is playing along can follow you and see your photos.

Words to Live by...
As my healthy food choice journey continues I have found very helpful and encouraging tweeters to follow. The tweets I am sharing are the actual thread that was posted on my twitter timeline this past week with the links in tact.
There is really something to say about 140 characters or less…little bitesize morsels filled with yummy goodness.
A few have made me smile, a couple have been encouraging and several have given me helpful tips just when I needed them.
Dave Zinczenko EAT RIGHT RULE: The word “muffin” was invented so people wouldn’t feel guilty about eating cake for breakfast.
Eat This, Not That! EAT EGGS: Folks who eat more protein-based calories burn 71 more calories a day, study says! 6 Foods to Flatten Your Abs: http://ow.ly/5tNP6
Dave Zinczenko DOUBLE YOUR DIGESTION: Chewing gum settles your gut by creating more natural bicarbonate, which helps stomach-acid flow
Dave Zinczenko WAIT IT OUT: Most temptations last about 20 minutes–the time it takes for serotonin to bounce back and kill the urge.
Eat This, Not That! Opt for 1% milk. Some of milk’s nutrients are fat-soluble, so a touch of fat helps you absorb the benefits!

Dave Zinczenko HEALTH MYTH: Though we spend more on food labeled “natural”, it usually means nothing. (Tornadoes are natural, too.)

Thanks for stopping by the Blog…I have been MIA this past week. Hopefully things will settle down soon.
Typically summer is the quiet time for me…I prefer vacationing in the winter, so it’s not vacation that’s got me running crazy! Also the summer months are typically a time for me to get some “housekeeping” done at the office. I try to take some sort of physical inventory in the bookstore during the summer and run a few sales to clear out old inventory. This year the task is proving to be a bit more of a challenge.
I am taking the advice of a respected colleague in the bookstore industry to create a more productive and better planned out inventory process. However, this takes a lot of effort up front to implement. I am willing to put in the work to ensure that in the end we will have excellent results.
On top of all that is going in on over in the bookstore…the cafe is undergoing a bit of change itself. We all know that in this economy every penny counts. I have been auditing one of our vendors and have decided that a change is in order. This can be an arduous task; comparing every single item by size, quantity per case and price per piece. However, in the end the savings will be significant.
With all of this said…you are now up to speed as to where I have been instead of visiting your wonderfully insightful, encouraging and humours blogs.
Happy Summer…just write!!!
I have linked up with Tossing it Out who is hosting the Blogging from A-Z April Blogging Challenge. It’s a post a day for the month of April excluding Sundays. You can learn more about it by clicking on the “A-Z Button” in the right side bar.
I am a couple of days late with my post for the letter “T” and “U” is on the calendar for today. So here is to the letter “T”!
I am somewhat fascinated with what’s (T)rending on my yahoo and twitter homepages. Although I am rarely if ever interested enough to click on one of the topics and see where it takes me. However I am curious as to why people are searching for information on these particular people or topics. I know the list is generated by the increase in hits on a particular topic. I know that people’s internet searches are influenced by the latest news reports or talk shows.
The following list is from April 24th, 2011, Easter Sunday.
- Jim Belushi
- Lindsay Lohan
- Prince William
- Dev Patel
- Frank McCourt
- James Franco
- Retirement planning
I do see how people would be interested in Prince William, Retirement Planning and Easter but Metallica, Really! All of this talk about trending gave me pause to think what exactly is trending in my life right now.
- Gasoline Prices
- The Economy
- Texas is in a drought
- Buying a new car
- Turning 5o
- Losing weight
- Eating better
Whats trending in your life?
Yippee! Woo hoo! Yes! It’s finally here! It is my one year blogoversary!
There were moments when I thought this day would never come.
I began blogging a year ago more out of curiosity than anything else. Then I ended up using my blog to chronicle the experience of moving from our family home of 12 years, into a 26′ travel trailer while our dream home was being built. I did it, I blogged my way through.
Although I hoped my friends and family would read and follow along on our journey, I secretly hoped that a few strangers would find, read and be encouraged through my blog.
What actually happened was that more strangers than friends and family read and follow along. Instead of being the one to inspire and encourage, I am the one who is inspired and encouraged by the friends I have made and the blogs I follow.
I have never considered myself a writer. But I do love banging away at the keys and there is such a sense of accomplishment as I pour out my thoughts, add a few pictures to help tell the story, spellcheck it, re-write a line or two and hit the publish button.
There were days, weeks and months when there were very few if any comments. But I kept plugging away. I kept searching for other bloggers who were looking for cyber-friendships. I knew I wasn’t the only one out there that was in need of inspiration and encouragement. I knew YOU were out there.
I am looking forward to another year of blogging, new friendships and experiencing life to the utmost, eagerly reaching out without fear for newer richer experiences.

I knew nothing about the world of blogging. Here I am almost 1 year later and I know a little bit more than I knew when I got started, but not as much as I hope to know this time next year.
Here is what I do know!
- I am addicted to blogging. (Isn’t everyone?)
- I really enjoy the creative process. (Hunting and gathering is part of my DNA)
- I enjoy discovering new blogs and bloggers. (this week; should be reading)
- I check my stats more often than I should.(I am getting this under control, hold on, I’ll be right back)
- I am happy that people find their way to my little piece of the blogosphere.(How do they do that?)
- I don’t take my blog too seriously.(Just like today)
- I know people prefer posts that are fun and entertaining.
- I know people love posts with photographs, especially of food.(food is always comforting, even in pictures)
- I know that spending a week crafting a post does not mean people will see it or like it.(That one hurt)
- I have been inspired and encouraged by a few kindred spirits which I now refer to as my blogging buddies.
- I know that my husband is my biggest blog
stalker supporter.(As he should be)
long long ago…before I blogged…I didn’t know…what I was missing!
