Where have my Subscription Posts Gone?

Where have my subscription posts gone? google image

Where have my subscription posts gone? Did I miss a WordPress Daily Challenge to NOT blog?  Ridiculous!   Did all of my blogging buddies take a Cruise? Vacation? Sabbatical? Retire? Go Fishing? Possibly.  But even if they did they would be blogging about it.  Something is amiss.  The posts of the blogs I follow are not updating.   It all began about the time Hurricane Lee arrived on the East Coast.  So at first I thought it was storm related.  After evaluating the situation and looking at the bloggers I follow and where they reside in the world I decided it was definitely not related to the storm.

After much thought and initial denial I have come to the conclusion that my blog has a bug.  It is the strangest thing this blog bug I’ve contracted.  Here are the symptoms:

  • Blog Buddy Post Withdrawals
  • Separation Anxiety
  • Delayed Gratification
  • Double Vision
  • Email Inbox Bloating

Self medication only made matters worse.

Here’s what’s been happening:

Over 2 weeks ago your daily posts stopped appearing under my follow tab.  I had no way of keeping up with my blogging buddies.  I decided to change the email notification from never to instantly.  And instantly each of your subscriptions doubled in the “blogs I follow” list.  Then as some of the posts began to show up(several hours after they were posted and some not at all) under the follow tab they were doubled.  There were two of every post!  So I decided to delete one of the subscriptions and Voila you were gone again…So I started the process all over.  I would go to each of your blogs and re-follow hoping that because I was starting from scratch the problem would correct itself.  Well here I am today a year and half into blogging and I am rebuilding my blog list  by going from blog to blog re-following you one more time.

It seems as though there are bloggers who have experienced similar problems and their issues have been corrected.  I am still waiting…So I wanted to apologize for what may look like you have a crazy deranged blog stalker visiting and following your blog over and over again.

I promise to seek some professional help from a friendly blogologist to help me overcome my many blog bug afflictions.

Expect Excellence!

Do it with Excellence!

If you are going to do something you should do it with excellence or you shouldn’t do it all!

What is excellence?

  • Excellence is the quality of being outstanding or very good.
  • The quality of excelling; possessing good qualities in high degree.
  • Excellence is the state or quality of excelling. Particularly in the field of business and organizations, excellence is considered to be an important value, and a goal to be pursued.

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit. – Aristotle

  • Performing at a level of excellence means to exceed the expectations of the intended recipient.
  •  To perform at a level of excellence is to meet someones unspoken need or desire.
  •  To go above and beyond what is expected.
  • To anticipate the need and then at just the right moment to meet the need.

No matter what I choose to do, I choose to give it my very best.  I remember exactly when I realized that working with excellence mattered to the person on the receiving end.   It is very rewarding to be a part of someones unexpected experience with excellence.

I have the natural ability to observe a situation, access it from a distance, determine an unpoken yet expected need and react to it.  I have been told that I have my finger on the pulse of my surroundings. I thought I was just being helpful.

We should always expect excellence.  Expecting less will get you less.

Excellence begins with a genuine attitude of caring for the needs of others. Excellence requires that you take responsibility for meeting those needs of. Once you commit to a level of excellence you must see it through to the end.

Once you have experienced a level of excellence from an individual, a brand or company it is what you should always expect.  To expect less or even to accept less will only encourage a lifetime of accepting mediocrity.

Only a mediocre person is always at his best.
W. Somerset Maugham

If you say you are going to do something, then do it.  Better to not make a promise you do not intend to keep.  Thus the problem with automatically generated social media support centers.

I have come to expect a certain level of excellence from my social media providers.  Just because social media sites are offered free to the end-user doesn’t mean that we the user should accept less than excellent service.

I understand that Facebook, Twitter and WordPress are continually updating their sites and services.  Which can and will cause somewhat isolated and temporary problems for some users.

I will not belabor the ongoing issues I am having with my WordPress blog.  I will just say that if you as a provider of a service or a product are aware that consumers are experiencing less than excellent service, Communicate!  Do not leave them in the dark.

Communication will show you genuinely care about the situation.  Communication will show that you are taking responsibility for the situation.  Communication will show that you are going to see the situation through to an acceptable resolution.

I do realize that we are privileged to have free access to such a great resource.  But in all things…if you are going to do something whether for a fee or for free you should strive for excellence.

Booker T. Washington
Excellence is to do a common thing in an uncommon way.

Blog Trouble

My blog trouble started sometime this afternoon.  It was my blog nightmare.  I logged on to my WordPress account and clicked over to see the daily posts waiting for me…

There were no posts. No Posts?  No Posts!

Now that I think about it, this all started yesterday.  But I thought the lack of posts were due to Hurricane Irene out on the East Coast.   Then this afternoon the only blog posts showing up was the Daily Post from WordPress.  Now I thought… that’s Weird!

Immediately I thought I had inadvertently hidden the posts and began trying to troubleshoot the problem.  That would not be the case.

As it turns out several bloggers are reporting the same problem.  I should have left well enough alone, but that is not what I did.

Shortly after reporting the problem I was checking to see if the problem had been fixed.  Now it appeared that all of my Blog subscriptions had doubled.  I began deleting the duplicates.  Thinking I was leaving the original subscriptions the way they were.

This is when it went from bad to worse.   Now, not only are the posts missing but the blog subscriptions are gone as well.

So I decided to re-follow each of you.  I used my recent posts and your comments to track you down.  Guess what?  Your blog posts are still missing from the list of posts I follow.

I hope the good people at WordPress get this bug exterminated soon.

I am missing my blogging family…

  • What type of blogging snafus have you experienced?
  •  How long did it take to have it resolved?
  •  Was the support team responsive?

The Rooster Rules the Roost…

as well as my blog stats and I am totally surprised by that!

google image

I know I am probably the only blogger in the blogosphere (tongue in cheek) who checks their blog to see how the most recent post looks on the blog home page!  I am especially happy with the way my blog page looks so I look at it often.    I log on and immediately go to “my blog”, Oh yes its still there and it still looks good (relief).  Next stop, Site Stats!  I am always curious to see which of my posts are being checked out.  Also, I am forever hopeful that today might be the day I show up on the freshly pressed page.  But more than that I just want todays post to hit the mark with my fellow bloggers.  Next stop “manage comments”, to see if you have  left a comment about what you have read.  I love the comments but the “likes” just tickle me to no end.  Everyone wants to be liked.  (Just ask Sally Field)

From time to time I take a look at my overall statistics just to see if I can figure out what you fellow bloggers are interested in reading about.   The most popular posts on my blog are as random as my blog.  There isn’t really any rhyme or reason to what you are reading when it comes to my blog posts.

Have you taken the time to look at your overall blogging statistics?

While looking at the stats I am surprised to see that there have been over 12,000 views of my posts.  There are 5 posts that make up the majority of the stats.  The top 2 are the same no matter if it’s for the current 7 day period or for the past 17 months.  The next 3 vary just slightly for the same time period.  I am most surprised by the post that comes in at #2 in all time visits.

Are you surprised by your numbers?  Is there one post that gets visited more often than the others?

Back in April I participated in the A-Z Blogging Challenge.  The instructions were to post everyday of the month with the exception of Sundays, beginning with the letter A and proceeding through the alphabet.  The beginning of the alphabet was fairly simple; A is for Amaryllis, B is for Birthday, C is for Carvings and so on.  Sometime after “L” the  posts became a bit more difficult to come up with.  The end of the alphabet W,X,Y & Z were the biggest challenge.  However, I finished on time but my brain was blogged out.   I needed a break.

Since finishing the challenge I have had the occasional visit to one or another of the alphabet postings, D is for decorating has been fairly popular.  However, there has been one particular post that has had visits almost every day without fail.   Since I published this little post this past April there have been at least 1o clicks everyday and as many as 76 clicks in one week on this one little post.

The craziest thing is that with so many visits, 1200+ in number the post has had very few comments.  I wonder what people are thinking they will find when they click on the link.  I wonder if the post contained sufficient information or they left rolling their eyes saying “whatever“.

…drum roll please….the #2 post on my blog is…R is for Rhode Island Red Rooster!  Can you believe it?  I certainly can not.  There are posts that took me days and weekes to write.  Posts that are emotional and meaningful.  There are posts about Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness…but the winner is…the crazy Red Rooster.  I would never have bet on that in a million years.

Which of your posts stats do you find most surprising?  Is there one post that you wished received half as much attention as the other? Share your post stat stories.

My focus has gone missing, have you seen it?

A little while back I hit the proverbial blogging wall….this is the post I wrote and then forgot to post.

…It has been over a month since I completed the A-Z Blogging Challenge.  The first ever real blogging challenge I participated in.  The challenge was to blog through the alphabet during the month of April.  It was a blog everyday for the month of April except for Sunday.  When I completed the challenge I was toast.

I would sit down at my computer and …nothing.  Nothing at all.  So I decided to jump off into photo blogging…a picture a day of the flowers in my yard. Then 9, 10 days into it and there were no more flowers to photograph.  Again sitting at my computer and nothing…nothing at all.

Was it the impending summer, the inevitable 50th birthday or maybe I was just burned out from everything and nothing at all….

I am happy to say that I have located my focus.  It obviously needed a little down time.  The blogging ideas are again presenting themselves at every turn.  It’s good to have my focus back!

Have you ever lost your focus?  Where did you find it?

community support, new blogs to follow…

A community isn’t built it grows through a common interest and commitment to a vision, then a plan begins to take shape.   The goal is  to create a place where people can gather and enjoy their common interests.

The same is true for the blog world.  This space has been created for people who have a desire to share what is  in their hearts.  Typically we begin by searching out the familiar, things we are most comfortable with.  Then we begin to experience new ideas from individuals living in wonderful places sharing their life experiences.  We are afforded the luxury of meeting new people, developing new friendships that otherwise would not exist.

I am committed to my community, the one where I live each and everyday.  I am committed to the community of believers that share my faith.  I am committed to the community of family that I have been born into.  I am committed to the community of those in need by doing whatever I can to help out.  I am committed to this community.

My blogging buddy Rose made a suggestion sometime back that we should search out new bloggers and blogs to connect with and encourage.  I loved the idea and I even gave it a try for a week or two.  However, I began to feel overwhelmed with all that I was trying to keep up with on my blog and the blogs of my buddies.  It fell to the bottom of my “to do”  list.  However the idea was always hovering in the back of my mind.  So this past week I renewed my commitment to my blogging community.

I decided to scan through my blogging buddies blog roles and check out a new blog or two.  When I found one that I felt connected with in some way I subscribed to their blog.  This way I could go back and revisit each one, support them by reading their posts and commenting and sharing them with you.  Thus building a stronger community in my little corner of the blogging world.

Here are the new blogs I am following and supporting.

figments of a duchess , a “Dutch”ess writer and teacher

faithdreams , faith and encouragement

gardenmuse, garden blogs and photography

How do you find new blogs?  Have you found a new blogging buddy?  If so leave their blog address in the comment section.  Let’s share the love and support our community.

time to celebrate…a true sense of accomplishment

Yippee!  Woo hoo!  Yes!  It’s finally here!  It is my one year blogoversary!

There were moments when I thought this day would never come.

I began blogging a year ago more out of curiosity than anything else.  Then I ended up  using my blog to chronicle the experience of moving from our family home of 12 years, into a 26′ travel trailer while our dream home was being built.   I did it, I blogged my way through.

Although I hoped my friends and family would read and follow along on our journey, I secretly hoped that a few strangers would find, read and be encouraged through my blog.

What actually happened was that more strangers than friends and family read and follow along.  Instead of being the one to inspire and encourage, I am the one who is inspired and encouraged by the friends I have made and the blogs I follow.

I have never considered myself a writer.  But I do love banging away at the keys and there is such a sense of accomplishment as I pour out my thoughts, add a few pictures to help tell the story, spellcheck it, re-write a line or two and hit the publish button.

There were days, weeks and months when there were very few if any comments.  But I kept plugging away.   I kept searching for other bloggers who were looking for cyber-friendships.  I knew I wasn’t the only one out there that was in need of inspiration and encouragement.  I knew YOU were out there.

I am looking forward to another year of blogging, new friendships and  experiencing life to the utmost, eagerly reaching out without fear for newer richer experiences.
